For 30 years Mr. Hayes was a public school music
educator. 27 of those were spent at Mt. Blue High
School where he taught band, chorus and music theory.
After retirement from full time teaching five years ago
he has remained as The Voices' director. In 1995
a group of chorus students approached him asking if he
would start up and organize a select/auditioned vocal
ensemble that would challenge interested singers in a
unique and entertaining way ... there came the birth of
The Mt. Blue Voices.
Mr. Hayes arranges the majority of Voices songs and acts as not only the
group's director but also booking agent and travel
agent.
Favorite thing about being involved with The Voices: Offering talented and highly motivated students the
opportunity to stretch their musicianship and to find
the joy in entertaining audiences with quality
performances.
Music that I listen to: Vocal artists such as Diana Krall, Sting, Sade; quality New Age; Classical; big
band jazz; and of course contemporary acappella
